Podcast Filming Day

5th January 2023
Location: London

What a day for us at the Clinic Mate HQ. Yesterday we had the pleasure of shooting the new format for Keeping It Real With Dr Uche. Seems straight forward, right? That is until you realise that shooting video for 7 hours is absolutely exhausting (newfound respect for media entertainers). Producing video content is made a lot easier with a good venue and a production team that takes initiative, so we’re very grateful for that. Interwoven into the day though were some pretty good lessons. Here they are:

  1. Failure to plan WELL is also planning to fail. We definitely underestimated the amount of time we would need to shoot our videos and so relied on a last-minute miracle to extend our shooting time at the venue. Lesson #1 – however long you think something is going to take, double the time in your planning.
  2. Chemistry is more important than statistics. We have attempted multiple variations of what we produced yesterday and the thing that was evident on the shoot was that having chemistry with your team is far more impactful than any strategic mapping you do in your lab. No matter what you’re doing, you’ll produce far better outcomes if you have chemistry with those around you.
  3. Establish a clear understanding around hired services. Sounds cliché, and apparently something we’re struggling to get our heads round lol. By the end of the day, we had a little confusion around what we would be sent as part of the shoot. We ironed it out, but if you’re paying for a shoot day, look to have your shoot day include synced audio and colour grading of your video (separate from any editing).

Anyway, that was our day which ended with an absolutely shattered trip to John Lewis and information you probably won’t give two hoots about. Soooo…
